Völker locks up pole position at EWS International

Ronald Völker has secured the overall TQ position at this year’s EWS International, after setting the fastest times in all three rounds of qualifying held today. Featuring the strongest line up in the event’s eight year history, the Yokomo pilot said he was “surprised” to have topped all three rounds, noting how close the top five were each time out. Making a number of changes throughout the day to his development Yokomo chassis, which features a number of parts in preparation for the BD10 release later this month, Völker said he was still chasing traction and will use tomorrow’s final qualifier to test some final ideas. Fellow German, Marc Rheinard, sits second after Saturday’s racing, the Infinity pilot taking a second and two third places today. Chasing his first win at the event, the Infinity pilot is also using a prototype car as the company looks to prepare it’s next generation of IF14 chassis. Defending race winner, Yannic Prümper sits third overall, with Lucas Urbain and Christopher Krapp rounding out the top five.

The Xray team have sent their full factory line up to the event for the first time, and despite sitting first and second after practice, Bruno Coelho and Alexander Hagberg have struggled a little in qualifying. Both have a second place score, but need a good run in the morning to move up to the top half of the A-final grid.

Super Stock sees Danish event debutant Frederik Mikkelsen sitting on top overnight, with two TQ runs. Awesomatix team mate, Christian Donath, is second, ahead of their team boss Max Mächler, and the Xray drivers Leo Arnold and Oliver Havranek.

Alexander Stocker secured pole in the Front Wheel Drive class, with a perfect score today, whilst in Formula, Michael Lee leads the way after Saturday.
