Mibosport Cup Rd1 – Report

The 2019/20 season of the popular Mibosport Cup kicked off in Hrotovice, Czech Republic last weekend. The event saw about 200 entries from the Czech Republic and surrounding countries with prominent guests being Schumacher’s Michal Orlowski and Turkish champion, Xray’s Mustafa Alp. Both the on-road and off-road track were laid out with a new high traction carpet, allowing the cars to go fast from the get go. Also the qualifying received a small update with a new points format being used over the previous FTD format. The new season also brought the addition of two new classes in the form of FWD Touring and GT Stock 17.5T. The latter targets first and foremost hobby pilots due to being slower than the current 17.5T Touring category. In addition the GT bodies make for more visual impact and both classes are great replacements for the now scrubbed pan car classes that suffered shrinking driver fields while also messing with the traction due to their foam tyres.

As for the racing and in the Touring Modified class it was the duo of Oliver Havranek and Dominic Vogl who together with Matej Sulc captured the top 3 starting positions. Dominic managed to pull away faster than he did in the Stock class and after just two finals his job was done. Oliver passed Matej on his way for the runner-up spot and Matej finished 3rd overall. Kuba Simurda stayed in 4th position and Petr Grof finished 5th.

Pro Stock 13.5T was all about Dominic Vogl, Oliver Havranek and Mustafa Alp. Those three guys were fighting for the victory from the early beginning. Dominic seemed to be very strong in qualifying, but come the finals Oliver was really close to turn the victory in his direction. In the end Dominic managed to keep a 1st spot in front of Mustafa and Oliver. Philipp Neudinger finished 4th and Radko Cernohous finished 5th.

The Formula class experienced some ups and downs in the past. However, this time it seems like it is on point again; that’s the only way to explain the awesome 42 drivers entry. The field also brought some highly experienced drivers such as ETS winner David Ehrbar, however it was Andreas Stiebler who took the TQ after the qualifiers. Unfortunately he went out of luck in the finals as he fell back to 4th spot in the end. David Ehrbar managed to take win after some nice battles with Lukas Hoch in 2nd position while Simon Horak finished in 3rd. The top 5 was completed by Thomas Dvorszky.

The FWD class saw the return of Mibosport’s own Michal Bok to the racing track. Despite some early issues he managed to take 2nd on the grid right behind Alex Mayer. The couple showed amazing battles during final heats. At the end Alex was more successful and took the victory in front of Michal and Christian Schmid.

In GT Stock 17.5T Ales Pelikan showed a great performance, which would award him with the day’s win. Daniel Hons tried his best and finally he managed to secure the 2nd position in front of Lukas Vopat.

Over in off-road and in 2WD Mod Buggy Michal Orlowski was unbeatable again. Proving his experiences from the EOS series he defeated the rest of the field by a margin. Hupo Hönigl tried to push hard, but there was no better result for him possible than the 2nd place. Martin Bayer managed to bring himself up to 3rd spot. Max Götzl finished 4th in front of Ales Bidovsky.

4WD Mod Buggy saw the same story. Michal Orlowski pulled away from the field and scored another victory. Martin Bayer jumped from 4th on the grid to a runner-up spot finish by passing Hupo Hönigl in 3rd place. Ales Bidovsky secured 4th and up and coming Slovakian star Matus Benetin, who surprisingly qualified in 3rd position, finished 5th at the end.

Finally in 2WD Stock Buggy, the slower of two 2WD Buggy classes, it was Michal Skolnik with the win. The Austrian driver did not let anybody past him, allowing him to take the win as Hannes Mayer finished in 2nd and Jeremiasz Kramza completed the top 3.
